IAIS is Fraunhofer’s ‘data institute’ and one of the most renowned research institutions in Data Science, with an extremely strong track record in data mining, machine learning, semantic technologies, geospatial integration, information retrieval and software engineering. IAIS innovation output is documented through a vast number of publications and leading journals, as well as its outstanding track record in exploitation and transfer of research results. This is demonstrated through contractual research and innovation projects performed for customers in telecom, financial services/insurance, publishers, retail and logistics. IAIS employs 200 scientists, developers, project managers and business consultants.
IAIS has developed the geospatial linking and enrichment components of SLIPO, and SANSA, a scalable inference and analytics framework providing spatiotemporal analytics powering a series of novel value-added services from geospatial assets. IAIS coordinates 24 institutes from various engineering sectors in Fraunhofer’s Big Data Alliance and is a founding member of the BDVA, the contractual partner of the EC within the H2020 Big Data PPP. IAIS is a founding partner in the German Industrial Data Space initiative, and the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), transferring its knowhow, innovation actions, standardization priorities, stakeholders, and community-building activities to the project. Further, IAIS develops the core infrastructure of the national Industrial Data Space, including specification and implementation of key components such as connector, broker, app store, and identity provider, as well as evaluation in the contexts of supply chains, enterprise social networks, and urban mobility. As such, it ensures the market relevance of OpertusMundi and its alignment with the vision, goals, and broader ecosystem of IDSA.
